My little corner of the Internet where I like to ramble about mascara and moisturisers and spring lip looks has been a little neglected recently and I'm very sorry about that. I do have a good reason though; I've moved back to England! Those of you who have maybe read a post or two of mine will know that my parents and myself uprooted and schlepped across the British Channel to a lovely house in the French countryside. It was a nice experience but I was lonely, bored and jobless until a few weeks away, when I managed to secure myself a live-in au pair job in the UK, about twenty minutes away from where I used to live. The family is lovely and I have plenty of free time to see all my friends which is perfect.

So my life is quite different now, but I'm going to make an active effort to keep blogging because I really enjoy doing it. My daily makeup routine is pretty different too, I don't have as much time to do it in the mornings and since I spend most of the day with kids I don't bother with very much. I thought I'd update you guys on how I'm doing the off-duty look.

My base right now is love-it-or-hate-it BAREMINERALS COMPLEXION RESCUE in the shade Buttercream, something I wouldn't normally lean towards (as someone who covets the high-coverage likes of  EL Double Wear and Dermablend). But the Accutane I've been prescribed is drying out my skin a lot and I've still got enough of a tan to get away with something a little lighter coverage. On the bareMinerals vein, to mask my lack of sleep and vibrantly violet under eyes, I've been reaching for the BAREMINERALS STROKE OF LIGHT EYE BRIGHTENER which is such a gem for the under eye area. Its a perfect consistency that won't cake or sit in creases and its not overly shimmery and unnatural. My shade of choice is Luminous 1 but all the shades have peach and salmon undertones to balance and neutralise purple and blue shadows.

Usually I do a lil' bit of strobing (I know, I'm so fancy and on trend) appropriately using MAC's STROBE CREAM (pictured is the travel size version). I feel like after I've taken the dog on a walk or cooked a meal or netted the pool and I'm looking a bit sweaty this just kind of makes it look less-greasy, more on-purpose. If I'm feeling  ZAZZY sometimes BENEFIT'S SUN BEAM makes an appearance dabbed along my cheekbones for a bronzed glow. Lips-wise I sometimes leave them bare or opt for DIOR ADDICT LIP MAXIMISER to add subtle colour and plump them up slightly.

Eyes are kept simple, usually a sweep of Skimp from the NAKED 2 BASICS PALETTE to brighten the inner corner and conceal some of the veins going on there, sometimes running Frisk on the lower lash line and outer corner. For eyelashes, I curl and then use MAC'S HAUTE AND NAUGHTY TOO BLACK LASH, namely the lash-defining brush as there's two options, the second being more volumising. The lash defining one just looks more natural and fluttery and works better for this look, I think and also I find the other brush option really tricky to use- I always end up with clumps! Anyone else experienced this? Just me? My brows are kept pretty much as they always look, with a slick of BROW PLUMPER from L'Oreal (why is my tube silver? Who knows) to keep them in place and add some definition.

I hope that quick run-down been useful to anyone looking for a more natural, everyday makeup look, and explained why I haven't been about on TWITTER or INSTAGRAM as much. From now on, I feel like my makeup will be much more drugstore brands as I'm not being paid as much as I was at my old job waitressing and also, annoyingly, not all of my makeup is here with me in England. Sometimes, bits and pieces of makeup I do have but didn't make the cut when deciding what to pack might not be pictured so I apologise in advance. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week and your weekend! What are you all up to?

  1. That's so exciting that you've moved back to the UK and become a live-in au pair. I used to have an au pair when I was younger and she was the best!! I'm definitely a high coverage kind of girl too, but I've been wanting to try out the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue for a while now, so will definitely check it out after reading this! Great post x

  2. I love natural everyday makeup looks, I've gotten so lazy with my makeup recently so I have been doing them a lot. It's good that your back in the UK close to where you used to live!
